T&T Sign Language Project

T&T Sign Language

Category: General

The Project:

A team of deaf and hearing researchers based at the University of the West Indies is studying the sign language used by deaf people in Trinidad and Tobago.

What will we be doing?

We will be videotaping short interviews with sign language users around Trinidad and Tobago, editing and analysing the language they use.

Why?

Very little research has been done on the language of deaf people in Trinidad and Tobago. We hope to find out about the differences between signers of different ages and from different places, and to learn more about the structure of sign language in T&T. We hope that this work will be useful and interesting to deaf people, those interested in teaching and learning sign language, and parents and teachers of deaf and hearing-impaired children in Trinidad and Tobago.

How you can help?

If you are a deaf sign language user from Trinidad and Tobago and want to be part of the project, or you know someone who is, please contact us.
